Job Summary: The Web Developer I is part of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Intuitional Advancement (IA) communications team and reports to the Digital Marketing Manager. The Web Developer I will develop, maintain, and optimize IA websites (Giving and Alumni) and other digital properties in a way that engages constituents and inspires them to act. These responsibilities include web design and development, content management, email design, and graphic design. Works regularly with the communications team to meet with Advancement staff and content owners to create digital project scopes, timelines, and provide appropriate support to fulfill digital project requests. May be considered for remote work.

Job Duties:

30% – Site Management: Assists the the Web Developer in the development and maintenance of CMS snippets, assets, and components; Monitor and assists in maintenance activities, such as broken links, content refreshes, and accessibility compliance. – (Essential)
30% – Email Design: Designs and develops HTML email campaigns and newsletters daily. Create emails using the email management system to meet the goals provided by the client and communications team following established protocols. Content will be approved by the Digital Marketing Manager. – (Essential)
20% – Web Design/Development: Works with senior level staff to design, code, develop, maintain, test, and support Alumni and Giving websites and web projects that follow enterprise branding standards; Plans, implements, and supports page designs and features in multiple content management systems (CMS); Works to continuously evolve how we deliver and manage our web presence, staying current with best practices, accessibility standards, and guidelines. – (Essential)
10% – Graphic Design: Designs graphics with photography, text, and logos for use in emails, social media campaigns, and on the web using Adobe Creative Suite or similar programs. Designs will follow MUSC Social Media and Brand standards. Content will be approved by the Digital Marketing Manager. – (Essential)
5% – Documents/Tacks Projects: Documents and track projects in a project management system daily. – (Essential)
5% – Other Duties: Performs other duties essential to maintaining a quality, professional, responsive, and service oriented digital communications team. Serve as back-up to other team members when necessary. – (Essential)

Preferred Experience & Additional Skills: Knowledge of website design best practices, responsive web design, current trends and techniques; An online portfolio displaying user-centered design; Understanding of SEO and UI/UX best practices; Knowledge of Website Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG);Working knowledge of CSS3, HTML5, JavaScript, and other web focused programming languages; Skilled in the use of graphic and layout applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator; Working knowledge of Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or other email management system (EMS); Working knowledge of Asana or other project management system would be helpful but not required; • Excellent oral and written communication skills; Exceptional analytical aptitude; the ideal candidate must be self-motivated, well organized, and able to work independently. Basic experience with Google Analytics to monitor site traffic, acquisition, and behavior would be helpful but not required. Basic SQL experience such as pulling data, cross referencing, importing, and maintaining data would be helpful but not required;

Bachelor degree in web design, computer science, or a related field with one to two years of industry experience. Associate degree and related experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis. Experience with basic Queries or Relational Data/Databases would be helpful. Working knowledge of the use of content management systems (CMS) preferred; Basic experience with Google Analytics to monitor site traffic, acquisition, and behavior would be helpful but not required. Basic SQL experience such as pulling data, cross referencing, importing, and maintaining data would be helpful but not required;
