POSITION SUMMARY: Works under the direct supervision of the Dining Room Manager to provide overall service to the customers (residents and guests) of the dining room. Provides table services duties for the dining room area and catered events. Responsibilities include resetting areas for the next service/meal and working in other Nutritional Services areas as assigned by supervisor on an as-needed basis. May fill in for waitstaff in assisting customers with menu selections and providing efficient delivery of food and beverages. Adheres to and complies with established Blue Skies of Texas, Morrison, and applicable regulatory agencies policy standard practices and procedures. Incumbent must provide outstanding customer service in a friendly manner. Ability to identify issues of concern and report them to supervisor as needed for follow-up and to ensure customer satisfaction.GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Will be expected to assume heavy workloads with a great deal of time spent on one’s feet. Some heavy lifting is required, as well as pushing/pulling. Incumbent must act in a positive and pleasing manner in all customer contact areas and with fellow employees. Must be able to speak, read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English. Possess the ability to record customer orders and do simple math calculations.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Preferred: BST welcomes all levels of experience and education. Students 16 and older are encouraged to apply. Prior dining service experience is not required.EQUIPMENT AND COMPUTER OPERATIONS: Training will be provided to familiarize incumbent with work-related equipment (commercial kitchen and support equipment) to ensure safety and proper operation during use.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS: Within 60 days of hire, incumbent must successfully complete and obtain certification in a Texas Food Handlers Program. Access to program and cost of program provided by Blue Skies. Preferred: Ongoing education is encouraged.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists with setting up assigned workstations with all necessary supplies prior to serving times and replenishes supplies such as flatware, dishes, condiments, etc. as needed. Ensures work centers are clean and sanitized following meal timesGreets customers in a courteous manner and assists with questions (i.e. table reservations, etc.)Assists the waitstaff in managing the dining event for the customerObserves customers to fulfill any additional requests and to perceive when meal has been completed.Clears table as needed while customers are enjoying meal,Upon customer departure, cleans and resets table for next serviceAssists in soup, salad, appetizer, and dessert preparation and serviceAssists with dishwashing duties as needed and as assigned by SupervisorIdentifies safety and sanitation hazards and reports them immediately to the Supervisor or managementFollows all Blue Skies and industry Standards of Operations and procedures. Comprehends and follows food handling and storage procedures, and department safety and sanitation procedures. Complies with all established Blue Skies of Texas personnel policies and procedures; attends department meetings and in-service programsPerforms other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.SUBORDINATES: None.INTERNAL CONTROL: Within the scope of position duties, responsible for seeing that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, and applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures are complied with. This position will handle confidential information and must treat such with appropriate sensitivity.PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: Work is generally performed indoors in a climate-controlled kitchen and dining room setting. Job duties are may be rigorous and physical demands are high at times. Incumbent must be able be on his or her feet and traverse the dining room throughout the shift. Must be able to routinely bend and properly lift (20 to 50 pounds) push and pull rolling carts throughout the day. Bending, squatting, and reaching are necessary, as well as mobility for frequent maneuvering in and between work areas. Exposure to heat, fumes, and odors in a kitchen environment is likely. Adherence to safety rules and regulations and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are crucial in safeguarding employees from accidents or injuries in areas with fryers, slicers, or other potentially dangerous equipment. Few environmental hazards are present, although the threat of communicable disease exists. Mild cleaning products, waxes, and soaps are used in the immediate area. Mild pesticides are used periodically to control bug infestation.WORK SCHEDULE: Core work hours are varied. Rotating days and shifts may be required including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Special events or assignments may require working other hours to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.WORK LOCATION: Work locations may vary according to need throughout the campus to include independent living, assisted living and nursing care.
