Job Description

Schedule: Monday – Friday (7:00am-5:00pm)

SUMMARY
The Member Money Management Specialist will work closely with Advocates, outside agency Case Workers, Social Security Administration personnel, and Associate Directors to provide both financial management assistance and benefits linkage to The People Concern members. This position will assist members with obtaining and maintaining benefits through the Social Security Administration and will provide money management services to members on a daily basis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure strict compliance with all relevant laws and regulations including agency accounting policies and procedures
Coordinate with Social Security Administration to process initial SSI/SSDI claims, monitor pending applications, and resolve benefit issues during pending status and after approval (if the individual is enrolled under the Money Management Program)
Assist members with completing and processing all SSA related materials
Perform all duties pertaining to Money Management in a timely, professional, and organized manner, including:
daily disbursement at scheduled hours
balancing
data entry into Quick Books
process check requests and automatic deductions as needed and agreed
process monthly account fees
communicate account information with internal and outside agencies when and as needed
Perform all duties pertaining to banking (e.g., report lost checks, process voided checks, ensure availability of proper levels of bank supplies, etc.)
For each enrolled member, create and maintain in a timely, professional, and organized manner:
an SSA file, including copies of annual reports, Medi-Care Summary Notice, Notice of Planned Action, Notice of Change in Payment, Notice of Change in Benefits, Notice of Payment Information, etc.
a Money Management file, which will include copies of the Money Management Agreement, Information Sheet, Benefit Assistance Referral (if applicable), and complete records of all checks disbursed and receipts received for purchases
Promote Money Management services by presenting program information to partner agencies
Prepare and deliver training to staff related to SSA and Money Management forms and procedures
Prepare monthly program reports for Money Management and Benefit services by the end of each month
Accurately document all client services rendered on a weekly basis by completing inputting services in database in a timely and accurate manner
QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or GED and some college coursework; Bachelors degree preferred
Strong knowledge of Social Security, SSI, and SSDI application process and procedures
Working knowledge of mental health and medical health terminology and abbreviations
Computer proficient, including familiarity with Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point, and QuickBooks
Strong knowledgeable of the policies and procedures of the banking process
Current, valid California Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record
Detail oriented with excellent time management, interpersonal, organizational, written, verbal, and follow-through skills
Able to learn quickly and work effectively with a wide range of constituencies and with minimal supervision
Experience working with homeless individuals, preferably those living with mental illness and/or substance addictions
Able to read medical charts and mental health records
Minimum 30 WPM typing speed preferred
Work Environment
Combination of field and office environment
Regularly required to sit, stand, bend; occasionally lift or carry up to 35 lbs.
On occasion walk or drive to different local sites
Will necessitate working in busy and loud environments
Will be exposed to elements like cold, heat, dust, noise and odor
May need to bend, stoop, twist and sit throughout the day
