This is a ‘once in a career’ opportunity to make a big difference and impact in how Ophthalmology services are delivered at Moorfields. The workforce and education strategies provide the road map for how the workforce will develop and transform over the next coming years.

We need an ambitious, motivated learning and development professional who can help map out the training and learning needs of our workforce, manage our core offer of statutory and mandatory training and deliver great training, apprenticeships and management development alongside our clinical education colleagues.

Alongside the senior team, develop and implement effective learning and development and apprentice strategies, policies, approaches and plans which meet Trust requirements and ensure the development of a skilled and competent workforce.

Support the creation of an apprenticeship career framework, enabling apprentices to progress in a range of career pathways enabling redesign of the existing workforce and maximising use of the levy.

Lead on the development, delivery and evaluation of opportunities for work experience, internships and placements.

Lead on the design and implementation of a new programme of in-house management training and development working closely with the senior team.

Develop policy to support delivery of the workforce strategy and compliance.

Support the development of line managers to improve their learning and development capability and capacity

Manage the achievement of the Learning and Development Team’s Key Performance Indicators, namely Mandatory Training, Appraisal and Induction compliance.

Your work will directly impact how care is delivered and how staff are developed and valued at Moorfields. You’ll work in an environment that is research and technology driven where learning and education underpins excellent clinical care. You’ll be leading a team of dedicated professionals to develop and deliver outstanding learning and development solutions to the 2000 staff across our networked sites. You have the chance to create, shape and develop an effective, responsive L&D department including people, tools, metrics and infrastructure.

You’ll have significant experience in learning and development with a demonstrable track record and proven success in establishing new learning and development programmes enhanced by technology. You’ll have experience of stakeholder management and working credibly with senior leaders. You’ll have at least an undergraduate degree and preferably additional qualifications in a relevant area.

Work with the Director of Education, Services, HR Business Partners, Professional Education Lead, Clinical Educators and other professional leads and to ensure a coordinated approach to the identification of and response to development needs.

Lead, develop and manage the Learning and Development Team and budget.

Work with the head of operations to oversee the management and development of the Trust’s learning management and e-learning systems as well as their integration with other workforce and IT systems.

Lead on a range of continuous improvement key projects including but not limited to on boarding, training and development and appraisal quality.

Provide a professional learning and development service to facilitate the development of the skills and abilities of staff to meet organisational and agreed individual needs.

Develop, design, evaluate and oversee the delivery of training, learning and development plans to meet identified learning needs and objectives.

Use data to inform decision making and planning, forecasting and evaluation

Ensure that learning outcomes and requirements are specified in conjunction with the subject matter experts and other staff to meet policy and other organisational requirements.

Commission external providers to support the trust’s learning and development plans as appropriate ensuring value for money and quality of provision.

Design and deliver training, learning and development interventions as appropriate.

Seek and manage formal accreditation of courses and programmes provided by the department, where appropriate.
